Netflix has confirmed a host of new films and series for this year, including a very big project adapted from a work which is enjoying enormous success. Today we have a very first glimpse.
As is often the case, Netflix is likely to win the prize for the greatest number of original programs this year. The firm with the red N has already dated some of them, such as The Lady and the Dragon (March 8) with Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Rebel Moon Part 2: The Slasher (April 9), but others like the Wages of Fear remake, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Monkey Man and more don’t yet have release dates. However, the platform has just revealed an intriguing teaser for a very big film.
Netflix teases a film adapted from an iconic game
Dozens and dozens of exclusive films or series are expected in the new Netflix 2024 releases. Among them, there are those that we have listed, but also the future adaptation of a cult work from us. And even all over the world for that matter. Do you know the Werewolves of Thiercelieux? It’s a board game where two camps clash. That of the villagers and that of the werewolves. When night comes, the players must close their eyes to start a lying poker game in which the lycanthropes must make victims without being unmasked, while the inhabitants’ mission is to discover all the beasts and kill them one by one.
A formidable concept which will be exploited by Netflix for its film Loups-Garous directed by Frenchman François Uzan (We smile for the photo). “After a game of Werewolves, a 21st century family is transported back to the 15th century. Arriving in a village, they understand that monsters are attacking the inhabitants. Very quickly, they will have to find out who the culprits are » official synopsis.
Before its release later this year on Netflix, we are treated to a first teaser that looks like Jumanji. An inspiration ? Very clearly and the game box that we see in the short video will be in the film Werewolves. But during an interview, François Uzan also said he was influenced by The Goonies and The Visitors, two iconic feature films. And there is a clear, clear and precise reference to the comedy of Jean-Marie Poiré since Jean Réno is part of the cast. Alongside him we will find Franck Dubosc, Lisa Do Couto Teixeira, Alizee Caugnies, Raphael Romand, Jonathan Lambert and Grégory Fitoussi. It will be available in 2024 exclusively on Netflix.
Werewolves, future hit or flop?
The Werewolves of Thiercelieux has already been adapted into a film and even into VR by Ubisoft, but under another name: Werewolves Within. A sure hit then?
