“A grandiose spectacle”: this film comes out in a week and promises “tons of action”!

Expected for April 3, 2024 in France, “Godzilla x Kong” was entitled to a preview in Los Angeles on Monday evening. Here are the first opinions on this monster film by Adam Wingard.

On April 3, 2024, two of the most iconic monsters in pop culture will meet in the cinema: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire! After the meeting of the titanic lizard and the gargantuan monkey in 2021, the two creatures never leave each other. This new feature film is once again directed by Adam Wingard.

In the United States, the work benefited from a public preview in Los Angeles and the first reviews are in! Note that The New Kingdom is the 5th film in the MonsterVerse franchise after Godzilla (2014), Kong Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).

Two television series have also been produced: Skull Island (2023), released on Netflix, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023), broadcast on Apple TV+. While waiting for April 3 and the release of Godzilla x Kong, here are the first opinions on the film.

What do the first American spectators think?

Michael Lee tells us that “Godzilla x Kong is a loud brawl between titans, with little human heart to engage us on an emotional level. But viewers who come just for the fights will be treated to a hugely impressive tag team match between Godzilla and Kong against Skar King and Shimo.”

For his part, Aaron Neuwirth is also convinced: “Godzilla x Kong is a film that appealed to me in more than one way! Tons of action with the kaiju, a brutal villain for Kong, an overpowered Godzilla, Dan Stevens which has fun, surprises and lots of colors. Bring me more MonsterVerse!”

“Godzilla x Kong is the most enjoyable film in the MonsterVerse yet, one where it feels like everyone understands the mission. The story is a little thin, but the destruction of the titans more than makes up for it. “

“Godzilla x Kong is a Kaiju movie with non-stop fun action that monster movie fans will love. Both Godzilla and Kong take center stage in this latest installment of the Monsterverse. Brian Tyree Henry and Dan Stevens are having fun together. But this movie belongs to giant monsters.”

Godzilla ride.”

“Godzilla x Kong suffers from an extremely slow start due to the lack of dialogue, which makes it more cheesy than entertaining. When the Titans clash, the action is incredible, but that’s not enough. The film is beautiful, but unfortunately he misses more than he hits.”

“Godzilla x Kong is a very good film about King Kong. The human story is particularly clumsy (poor Rebecca Hall is burdened with so many dour explanations), but Kong has so many scenes centered around him that I loved this big guy. And the final fight sequences are a pure monster delight.”

“Godzilla x Kong is an atomic explosion! A fantastically bizarre and psychedelic journey through the Shōwa era. It’s an absurd adventure with crimson monkeys, frost dragons, a deliciously zany Dan Stevens. Another FUN episode in the MonsterVerse!”

“Godzilla x Kong failed to hit as hard as the previous film. The fight scenes weren’t as exciting. The human storylines are even worse and uninteresting. The final act was still fun.”

“Godzilla x Kong is a grandiose spectacle that dazzles with its technicolor visuals. The epic battles between the titans are breathtaking and accompanied by a story with a gargantuan heart. And then there’s Dan Stevens walking around in a Hawaiian shirt for two hours.”

If you want to form your own opinion, Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom will hit theaters on April 3! Prepare for a titanic battle!
