a guest at the state dinner criticizes the dishes he considers “not very filling”

King Charles III participated in a state dinner in the presence of 150 guests including the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron, in the Hall of Mirrors at the Château de Versailles. But the menu for September 20 was obviously not to everyone’s taste…

The king Charles III and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles arrived in France this Wednesday, September 20 to immediately go to the foot of the Arc de Triomphe, to the tomb of the unknown soldier, before walking down the Avenue des Champs Élysées in the company of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron. The two men then spoke about various subjects of international politics, such as the war in Ukraine, and about the ecological emergency, among others. Still with this perspective of strengthening Franco-British ties, Emmanuel Macron then invited the newly crowned king to a state dinner in the company of 150 guests selected with great care.

It is in the famous Hall of Mirrors at the Château de Versailles that the father of princes William and Harry and Camilla Parker-Bowles dined, in the company of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones), Hugh Grant and of course the First Lady Brigitte Macron. The menu was known, having been revealed a few hours in advance, but the dishes were visibly not “not very filling”.

Charles III’s very busy schedule

This is what journalist Guillaume Durand revealed on BFM TV this Thursday, September 21. According to him, if “the atmosphere was warm” around the table, “the three dishes” lacked volume. The poultry was far from being “gigantic” And dessert by Pierre Hermé was “one of the least sweet” that he had been given to taste. For the record, before the traditional Bresse poultry with the scent of corn, was to be served from blue lobster and trap crab ; after that a selection of refined cheeses : a three-year-old Comté, a goat’s log and a Stichelton. The menu was created by starred chefs Anne-Sophie Pic and Yannick Alléno in compliance with the requirements of Charles III.

Guillaume Durand also stressed that this state dinner was a kind of“diplomatic instrument” due to the presence of “main business leaders” and “representatives of constituted bodies” : “I won’t denounce my neighbor, we talked more about selling at a loss, ecological problems, all that casually”. After which the king and his wife returned to their apartments to prepare for a new day of performance. Charles III spoke to parliamentarians this Thursday morning and multiplies the appearances, including in Saint-Denis. He must then take the road again in the direction of Bordeaux. A concert will be given in his honor before his return to London on Friday.
