“A heroine”: Pascal Praud opens his program with a poignant tribute

This Tuesday, March 15, Pascal Praud decided to pay a superb tribute at the opening of his flagship program, L’heure des pros, on CNews. The journalist gave his opinion on the heroic act of the employee of a Russian channel who held up an anti-war sign in the middle of the news.

The scene went around the world. This Monday, March 14, an employee of the most watched Russian channel in the country, Pervy Kanal, burst into full live with a sign criticizing the Russian military offensive in Ukraine. On it adorned with a Ukrainian flag, one could distinctly read: “No to war. Don’t believe propaganda. You are being lied to here. Russians are against war”. Barely five seconds after its eruption, the management of this channel, strictly controlled by Vladimir Putin’s teams, broadcast other images in order to end the live broadcast.

This young journalist is called Marina Ovsiannikova. And the latter was directly arrested by the Russian police and taken to the police station, according to information from the NGO defending the rights of demonstrators, OVD-Info. This anti-propaganda stunt was seen live by millions of Russians so much this daily meeting is followed within the hearths of this communist country. Imperturbable, the presenter continued to speak while the protester chanted “no to war”, sign in hand. According to the Tass news agency, the young woman could be prosecuted for having “discredited the use of Russian armed forces”.

Pascal Praud: “She behaved like a heroine at the cost of her freedom”

This moment live on Russian TV went around the world via social networks, despite the Kremlin doing everything to stifle it. A scene that touched Pascal Praud a lot. Because at the start of his sentence program, L’heure des pros, here is what the CNews journalist said: “Hello everyone and welcome to Hour of the Pros this morning. Her name is Marina Ovsiannikova. She is a journalist, she is 44 years old. She was born in Odessa to a Russian father and a Ukrainian mother. Last night , during the most watched television news in the country, she entered the set, stood behind the presenter and held up a sign reading ‘No to war, don’t believe propaganda, we lie to you here’ The scene lasted less than five seconds before the director broadcast more images so that we no longer see Marina Ovsiannikova”.

And it wasn’t over. Here is the continuation of his tribute that could not be more poignant. “This woman has been arrested, she faces fifteen years in prison. There is this song by Jean-Jacques Goldman that makes you think about what we would have done if we had been born in troubled times. Yesterday evening, Marina Ovsiannikova answered this question. She behaved like a heroine. She showed extreme courage, she defended freedom, at the risk of losing hers. May providence watch over her.. A magnificent gesture of symbolism on the part of Pascal Praud.
