Despite its certain age, The Witcher 3 still holds many secrets, including one discovered very recently that could have changed everything for the end of Geralt of Rivia’s adventures.
However, this time it wasn’t for lack of searching in every nook and cranny of the full game. It was indeed necessary to wait for CD Projekt RED to give the keys to The Witcher 3 to modders with the REDKit tool for them to discover this particular secret. This element had in fact been removed from the full game, despite its enormous potential impact on the story of the Polish studio’s masterpiece.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt for the Deepest Secrets
CD Projekt RED’s writing and storytelling talents are now well-established. The Witcher 3 was the most striking example in 2015, with a story with extremely complex and fascinating ramifications depending on our choices. However, the Polish studio had not told all the stories it had imagined for the final chapter of the Geralt of Rivia saga. This is particularly the case with an ending that had been entirely scripted and dubbed, but removed from the final game.
It is only since the release of REDKit for modders that they have been able to unearth this content cut from the final game. This tool offers, as a reminder, full access to the assets of The Witcher 3, with now only the imagination as the limit to create new stories and quests. It also allows to search the most confidential files of the massive RPG of CD Projekt RED. Glassfish77 was thus able, among other things, to restore a secret ending involving Yennefer and the Lodge of Sorceresses, an extremely important faction in the dark fantasy universe imagined by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The secret of the magicians revealed in broad daylight
In order to protect Ciri from the Wild Hunt, Geralt recruits many members of the Lodge. In the final version of The Witcher 3, however, the fate of most of them remains relatively unknown. CD Projekt RED had thought of them with this conclusion of the story, ultimately abandoned. Thanks to Glassfish77’s restoration, we can however relive this pivotal event of the narrative, fully animated and voiced. We see Geralt, Yennefer and the Lodge reunite. But Geralt’s companion ultimately decides to betray her sisters and sell them to Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, in order to keep Ciri away from their dark machinations.
Which Geralt can react to in different ways. Depending on his reactions, the following dialogues will be radically different and can strengthen his relationship with Yennefer as much as negatively impact it. Seeing the work done by CD Projekt RED on this alternative ending that we would never have seen without this restoration commands respect in any case. One can even wonder if the modders are not going to discover other secrets of this type, in addition to splitting stories of their own creations. A way like any other to wait for a certain The Witcher 4, in short.
