Soon better comfort on PS5 for very popular games?
The PlayStation 5 catalog is full of beautiful third-party and first-party productions. But, the games of this generation are not the only ones accessible to gamers. In fact, subscribers to PS Plus Premium have access to a catalog of “Classics”. This is a selection of retro games from the PS1 to the PS3, including the PSP. But… their use is not always the most optimal.
In fact, since the launch of the program on PS4 and PS5, one point has particularly frustrated subscribers to the service. Despite the richness of the catalog which regularly welcomes new games, the fact of only being able to play in streaming to PS3 titles is far from being the most practical. That is, they cannot be installed to play natively on the console. Instead, they are played through online servers. This requires a good internet connection at all times to make the most of it. Otherwise, the game will not run well, will not be fluid and therefore difficult to play.
But the situation could only be temporary. At least that’s what Jeff Grubb would have heard. Generally well informed, the journalist has heard about projects at PlayStation. The manufacturer would actually be working on the possibility offinally install PS3 games on PS4 and PS5 to play it from his console. Until now, he argued that it was too complicated to set up. The architecture of the 7 consolee generation did not allow easy compatibility on the consoles that followed.
But Grubb is not the only one to have such echoes. Nick Baker, journalist for XboxEra, also had information on this subject. In a recent podcast, he reports that, according to an anonymous source, PlayStation is at least working on “ some » PS3 titles to be made compatible on PS5. Not all of them would therefore be available natively from the start. However, this selection could be a first way to assess people’s interest in the principle. Finally, if this ends up being true, it would be a big step for the backwards compatibility at Sony.
