Baldur’s Gate 3 calmly continues its path knowing the success that we know. The developers at Larian are also considering many improvements and surprises for the future, including a particularly popular feature.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a smash hit. The game, which was just released on PlayStation, is in a very strong position on Steam, topping the charts a month after its launch. Recently, only Starfield managed to surpass it by taking the top spot. It’s a real triumph. Building on this success, the Belgian developers at Larian have no shortage of ideas to enrich it even more.
A novelty that makes you dream for Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have something to celebrate: cross-play is officially in development. This ambitious project will allow players on PlayStation 5, PC and, potentially, Xbox, to cooperate online. Michael Douse, Publishing Director at Larian, shared the good news, clarifying that while planned from the start, this feature wasn’t ready for the game’s initial launch.
It was still in the forecast, but we knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and while we have an idea of when we’d like it to be ready, we don’t want to set a date until we’re sure.
For now, the recently launched PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 already supports online multiplayer play as well as local split-screen co-op. It also offers the possibility of cross-saves, a feature that, according to feedback, works very well. It is worth noting that these features are also available on PC. The only downside to Sony’s console is the visual rendering in quality mode, limited to 30 frames per second, lower than the performance mode which offers 60 fps. Larian also mentioned performance issues in the game’s final act on PS5 and PC.
Despite these slight drawbacks, the gaming experience on PS5 remains very positive. Many gamers are pleasantly surprised, and some even prefer the console version over the PC one, thanks to a much-loved modified UI, creating an expectation for the cross-play feature.
The Ambition of an old-school RPG
Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to thrill fans and establish itself as a major title in the gaming industry, promising an even richer and more collaborative gaming experience in the near future. Recently, a mod added around fifty new races from the Dungeons and Dragons universes and even from… Final Fantasy 14. And this is only the beginning, because other features are already available on NexusMod, the site reference for mods. It promises heavy. As always, games that are open to mods have longer lifespans than average, Skyrim leading the way. We can also mention Cyberpunk 2077 in the field.
