This July 14, many people attended the fireworks of the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, despite the rules of social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

If a very large security perimeter was set up during the fireworks of the Eiffel Tower, many tourists and residents of Ile-de-France came to watch live the traditional show in Paris. However, authorities, via press releases and social networks, had taken care to ask to avoid travel, asking people to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic season.

An exclusion zone had been set up around the Eiffel Tower to avoid a crowd gathering and to enforce social distancing. But that did not stop thousands of people from assembling en masse, even outside the exclusion zone. Many people have gathered along the Seine and on the Esplanade des Invalides. Some gendarmes allegedly attempted to remove spectators from the Esplanade des Invalides. The crowd then left the evacuated part of the esplanade while CRS reinforcements parked on the scene.

We are coming out of confinement, the weather is good, so we should take advantage of it

Léa and Johanna, three Parisian students, confided in the newspaper 20 minutes that night : "We respect the distancing, we came in fewer numbers than usual. It's always better to be outdoors." Presumably, the majority of people did not wear a mask. Also at the Invalides, Susan, a Dutch tourist accompanied by her children, also told the newspaper that she was surprised by the crowd gathered to see the fireworks: "It's a lot of people, of risks, we're going to find a quieter place."

If President Emmanuel Macron had warned during the day against the epidemic "who leaves a little" that did not challenge the many people who came to watch the fireworks on the evening of July 14.
