a huge graphic slap? The verdict hurts!

FF7 Rebirth, the sequel to the remake, is giving everyone a huge slap in the face, but obviously that doesn’t stop it from suffering from some problems.

Did you have time to go on an adventure in FF7 Rebirth? If you haven’t yet, we have a question for you: what are you waiting for? All joking aside, we really invite you to take part in the incredible epic offered by Square Enix. The sequel to the 2020 remake lives up to all expectations, and the feedback is obviously positive. However, is the game perfect? For example, in terms of graphics? A certain media outlet has looked into the issue, and it has some negative points to raise.

FF7 Rebirth, a real feast for the eyes?

It’s the Digital Foundry team who brings us their expertise on the subject of FF7 Rebirth. Generally speaking, we agree that the new opus is a big graphic slap in the face. The artistic direction is impeccable, and its visual identity is well-defined. On these points, there is not really much to complain about, and the members of DF are quite in agreement. On the other hand, it is on the technical level that, according to them, the problem lies. “Unfortunately, there are some areas where Rebirth is only treading water compared to its predecessor from four years ago — and there are several places where we’ve even seen a step backwards.”.

So, what exactly is being criticized about the remake? Digital Foundry mentions problems with light management, with blurred shadows from which the 2020 remake was actually spared. One of the other main concerns cited is the textures which sometimes tend to be of low quality. “FF7 Remake had a lot of texture issues in its PS4 version, but Intergrade on PS5 mostly fixed those issues. For Rebirth though, there’s a weird mix of assets that are low and high resolution.”.

Afterwards, Digital Foundry still specifies that FF7 Rebirth runs well on PS5. At least, framerate wise. Resolution (or Graphics) mode offers a stable 30 fps, with beautiful dynamic 4K. As for Performance mode, 60 fps is also constant, but the dynamic resolution remains stuck at an average of 1152p. As a result, there are times where it’s a bit blurry, which isn’t exactly pleasant to watch. That said, we remain in the realm of detail and overall, the game is sumptuous. It’s up to you to go and find out now!
