A few days after the content of racist remarks in the National Assembly by the deputy RN Grégoire de Fournas, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin points the finger at the management of the affair by the National Rally. For him, the party’s support for the fault of its deputy shows the beginning of a rebirth of the National Front of Jean-Marie Le Pen. Guest of the Grand Rendez-vous co-broadcast on Europe 1, CNews and Les Echos, Gérald Darmanin believes that the sentence “that they return to Africa” pronounced by the deputy of Gironde should be condemned, this including his own party.

A misplaced solidarity with De Fournas

“His convoluted explanations do not deceive anyone”, launched the Minister of the Interior, referring to the defense of Grégoire de Fournas, who explained that he was talking about migrant boats and not of the deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo during his speech at the Assembly. “I think there is a bundle of clues,” he said before clarifying, “this character should have apologized right away and he didn’t even do it.”

Thus, for the politician, the National Rally should have taken its responsibilities, and sanctioned its deputy. Friday, during the vote of the hemicycle, all the deputies of the majority, right and left voted in unison for the exclusion of Grégoire de Fournas. Only the RN defended tooth and nail the elected representative of Gironde.

“What is incredible is that we would all have thought that Madame Le Pen would have drawn immediate conclusions from what happened in the hemicycle and would herself have scolded her parliamentarian, or even expelled him for show that indeed she was not in the lineage of her father and the National Front”, judges the minister. “She didn’t. She made a huge mistake,” he says.

The RN, “not a party like the others”

For Gérald Darmanin, this is not only a political error, “after years of trying to show that the devil wears Prada”, but also proof of solidarity, “a little hidden now”, from the Rassemblement. national who made “ignominious” remarks. Therefore, it is the entire party that can be described as shameful and ignominious for the Minister of the Interior.

Gérald Darmanin insists, “that’s why I’m fighting the National Rally, and that’s why it’s not a party like the others”. If Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, recently at the head of the far-right party, have tried to de-demonize themselves for several months and years, they are “catching up at full gallop”, he believes. “Madame Le Pen’s strategy of trying to moderate herself came crashing down on the personality of this parliamentarian on Friday.”

The identity question would therefore remain the essence of the opposition party for the former mayor of Tourcoing, despite his desire to move forward on social issues. “How many other Mr. de Fournas are there among the 80 RN parliamentarians? I think that in the weeks and months to come, we will see it.”
