It’s been several months now since many reports indicated that Apple was thinking about making a major change to its iPhones. After years of using a side switch to activate silent mode, Apple has finally replaced it with a brand new button on its next iPhone 15.
Thanks to the exploitation of the code of the latest beta version of iOS 17, some have already discovered what this new button could be used for us. According to them, it would trigger actions more easily than via the touch screen. The functionalities would be 9 in number, and would include for example the activation of the flashlight, the camera, the silent mode or even a translation mode.

Leaker Majin Bu shared on X, the new name of Twitter, several snaps showing one of the cases of the next “iPhone 15 Ultra”, which will probably be simply called iPhone 15 Pro Max. On these, we notice the two volume buttons on the left edge, but these are under a very small button with an oval shape.
On the hulls of previous models, we should have found at this place a hole allowing to activate or deactivate the silent mode switch, but this is a new button. According to some previous reports, the latter will be customizable, and will adapt the action to the level of pressure applied.
It remains to be seen whether all this will be confirmed. As a reminder, Apple should officially present its new iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max on September 13, and these would then be available on the market from September 22. So there are only a few weeks left to wait before we know everything about the next flagship smartphones from the Californian giant.
