A hundred victims of influencers file a complaint for “organized gang scam”

Two collective complaints for “organized gang fraud and breach of trust” were filed Friday, January 20 with the Paris prosecutor’s office. The influencers Marc and Nadé Blata, from reality TV, are targeted by these complaints. They are accused of having taken advantage of their notoriety to promote risky investments.

For the first time in France, people who claim to be victims of influencers have come together to take legal action together. This collective brings together more than 80 alleged victims who have just filed a complaint for “organized gang fraud”, in particular against Marc and Nadé Blata. This famous couple of influencers from reality TV is followed by seven million people on Instagram.

They are accused of having taken advantage of their notoriety to promote risky investments and derive profits from them. Two separate complaints were sent to the Paris prosecutor’s office. The first targets an NFT (non-fungible token) scam. The second is directly aimed at the couple of influencers who promoted “copy trading”. Marc and Nadé Blata tricked their fans into betting on the risky derivatives course, as explained West France.

“The two complaints were sent last week. The ultimate goal of the law firm is for justice to render a decision which will serve as case law”, explains Me Jocelyn Ziegler at the microphone of Culture Media. “This case law will be able to greatly help the government and the legislator in order to pass a law to best regulate the profession of influencers”.

Define a new legislative framework to put an end to these abuses

Influencers are also more than ever in the sights of Bercy. The DGCCRF announced in a press release yesterday that 60% of influencers did not respect the rules in place regarding advertising. This is what emerges from a large survey carried out over several months. In particular, many influencers are accused of having “deceived consumers about the properties of the products sold” or of having “promoted risky products or services”. On the Bercy side, it is indicated that it has already initiated several procedures. At the same time, a major public consultation was open until January 31. Objective: to define a new legislative framework in order to put an end to these abuses.
