A journalist indicted for “disclosure of defense secret” on the DGSI

Journalist Alex Jordanov was indicted on Friday after the publication in 2019 of his book “The wars of the shadows of the DGSI”, published by New World editions, on the French intelligence services. It is targeted for several reasons, including that of “disclosure of defense secret”.

Author of a book on the DGSI, Alex Jordanov was indicted for the information published about the French intelligence services. His investigation The shadow wars of the DGSIpublished by New World editions, was released in 2019 and earned him 48 hours of police custody last week.

The investigative journalist is accused of having revealed too many details on the functioning of the DGSI. He was presented to an examining magistrate and indicted for several reasons including “disclosure of defense secrecy”, on the techniques of the DGSI, the methods of recruitment, the management and the remuneration of human sources, among others.

He is also accused of having published information likely to allow the identification of an agent or a source of the intelligence services.

An “intimidating measure”

Two police officers, suspected of having provided him with confidential information, were also presented to an investigating judge on Friday for their indictment, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Alex Jordanov had however had his book reread by intelligence specialists “so as not to undermine the work in progress of the services”, maintains the publisher of his book. The Judicial Press Association denounced “an unacceptable measure of intimidation” and “an umpteenth violation of the law on the protection of the secrecy of sources of 2010”.
