Because the release of the first processors Ryzen 7000 is of course only the beginning of a long “career” for Zen 4.
Some may have been surprised, when formalizing the first salvo of Ryzen 7000 processors with Zen 4 architecture, Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, had hardly any words for the 3D Vertical Cache yet in the spotlight only a few months ago.
Triple the size of the L3 cache
the 3D Vertical Cache, it’s a technique that AMD has been working on for years that aims to “stack” the cache memory of a microprocessor. The objective is obviously to be able to store more in the same space, which is generally limited.
Appearing with the release of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D last April, the technique could not be more convincing, especially in everything related to video games. The 5800X3D was thus placed at the level of the best Intel Alder Lake processors.
However, at the beginning of the week, none of the four Ryzen 7000 launched by AMD integrates the 3D Vertical Cache and if the American confirmed that the technique was still on the agenda, he was evasive.
Countering Raptor Lake?
The information relayed by Videocardz is obviously nothing official, but the published roadmap is credible. It indicates that Ryzen 7000 X3Ds are not only planned by AMD, but that they should arrive next year.
Note, however, that the Ryzen 7000 X3D “box” straddles the years 2022 and 2023: it could be that the roadmap is quite old and no longer reflects AMD’s intentions. One thing is certain: Lisa Su will speak during CES in early 2023 in Las Vegas.
Finally, remember that Intel is about to launch its Raptor Lake processors and, perhaps, regain the upper hand over AMD and its Ryzen 7000s. If this were to be the case, the 3D Vertical Cache would be a quick way to respond to Intel.
