A light and powerful mouse

We had the opportunity to test a new model of wireless mouse from SteelSeries, in this case the Aerox 5 Wireless, which gives us great promises.

In recent years, fashion has been for light mice. Easily transportable, very handy, this type of device is widely emulated. SteelSeries has therefore resumed its honeycomb design with a slightly different recipe. The objective of the cells (simply holes in the frame) makes it possible to lighten the assembly as much as possible. The worst nightmares of trypophobes (phobia of holes) and we can understand them. The goal is therefore to have something light in your hands, and too bad if the design is not necessarily appreciated by everyone. These hundred cells will seriously lighten the whole to allow to go down to 74 grams.

A special but already known design

On the front panel, we therefore find on the upper part of the SteelSeries mouse the traditional buttons of a mouse, right click, left click, wheel and wheel click as well as the button to manage the sensitivity. The device measures 128mm x 62mm x 27mm for 74 grams. The size is therefore quite classic, we are clearly not on a reduced model as can compete with the light mice from Razer.

A very good grip

This Aerox 5 is not outdone on the button side since on the left side you can find 4 others that can be operated with your thumb. Good surprise the presence of a trigger that has a good grip. Moreover, on the grip side, one would think that the presence of a honeycomb structure would be disturbing to the touch, but this is absolutely not the case. It’s the same case on the sliding side since the structure under the mouse also has this characteristic which in no way hinders the fluidity of a hand movement with any grip. We feel that SteelSeries has really done a very good job at this level to offer a pleasant experience.

Surprisingly enough, the device is IP54 certified, despite the numerous entrance doors all over the surface of the plastic. IP54, that is to say that the mouse is protected from the infiltration of dust and liquid. A good way to preserve its lifespan. Be careful however, do not go to immerse the mouse under water for a big cleaning because this certification is not made for that.

And in terms of performance, what does it give?

The SteelSeries Aerox 5 offers a sensor called TrueMore Air. It is an in-house model from SteelSeries which can increase sensitivity up to 18,000 DPI. This sensor can support accelerations up to 40G knowing that anyway this will be more than enough for classic use (and even eSport). We used the mouse intensively on several games (including Hunt Showdown which requires extreme speed), it is clear that in use it is a very efficient mouse.

A bit of fun in the design

The advantage of this atypical design is the possibility of better seeing the RGB which is here on 3 zones. Via the SteelSeries GG software it is possible to customize everything to have THE mouse of your dreams and illuminate your hand during your hot summer evenings (or cool winter evenings).

This Aerox 5 is therefore ultimately
