A Linky meter at the origin of a house fire on December 25?

It’s a wasted Christmas day for these inhabitants of the place called Les Landes, in Valdallière (Calvados). Saturday, December 25, while Marcel and his wife had gone to spend the holidays with the family in Vire Normandie, neighbors called them to tell them that their house was on fire. A major fire that mobilized 25 firefighters for nearly four hours, details La Voix le Bocage. Marcel himself could only “see” the damage: a roof gone up in smoke and a garage completely destroyed.

Inside the building, water and smoke also damaged everything. “We were able to recover some clothes but everything is smoky. There is a lot of damage”, laments to the local media Marcel, who is however delighted that “no one was injured”. “There was no one in the house, no animals, that’s the main thing”, puts into perspective the one who had gone to celebrate Christmas with the family with his motorhome.

A drama for the couple which could be due to the Linky meter which equips the house. Indeed, if nothing is official for the moment, expertises must be carried out in the days to come. But according to the victims “we can see that it started with the Linky electric meter”. While waiting to determine the causes of the tragedy and to be able to rebuild their house, Marcel and his wife will be accommodated with their son.

This is not the first time that a smart meter has been implicated in a dramatic incident. Last July, a small green box would have exploded in the middle of the evening in a town of Côtes-d’Armor. Incidents on which Enedis, which installs the meter, wanted to reassure. The company had in fact, at the time, assured that the green box did not catch fire: “All the expertises carried out during a fire of electrical origin have ruled out the meter,” the company said at the time. .
