Each new generation of NVMe SSD increases the heating… to the point of requiring a water cooling system?

For the past few months, more and more manufacturers have been presenting ever more ambitious cooling solutions to keep our NVMe SSDs company. None, however, have ever gone as far as Teamgroup and its AiO T-Force.

Cool CPU and SSD at the same time

Through its press release, Teamgroup explains that in recent years ” have seen a very rapid development of storage units “. He adds that ” the increase in flows goes hand in hand with an increase in temperatures “, especially with PCIe Gen 5.

Teamgroup specifies that to anticipate the release of its first PCIe Gen 5 SSDs under the T-Force brand, it is marketing the first water cooling unit designed for the SSD. In reality, it is not limited to the SSD alone and associates the processor with the storage unit.

On a PCIe Gen 4 SSD, Teamgroup specifies that we obtain speeds of 7 GB / s for a consumption of 12 W. On the side of the SSD controller, we can then reach more than 110 ° C. Logically, with 12 GB/s and a consumption of 14 W, PCIe Gen 5 SSDs will go further.

Teamgroup does not, however, go into the details of its AiO, which can however be determined to rely on a 360 mm radiator, a CPU block with integrated pump and an SSD block to complete the circuit.
