“A Little Something Plus” arrives directly in the Top 10 films with the most admissions in 2024, with more than 1.1 million admissions in one week. This is the 2nd 2024 start, behind “Dune 2”.
Due to the two public holidays this week, the complete French box office table is not yet available at the time of writing. However, we know the number 1 of the week: the film by the outsider Artus, with Un P’tit truc in addition!
On 455 copies in 7 days, the comedy totaled 1,104,397 admissions. Taking into account previews, we arrive at a total of 1,131,341 entries.
“A little thing in addition achieves the best average admissions/screening of 2024 (around 90 admissions/screening) for a classic feature film, underlines Émilien Robert, Business Intelligence director of Boxoffice. This is the best post-Covid performance for a French film and it even rivals the occupancy rates of the biggest success of 2023 in its first week: Super Mario Bros and its 89 admissions/screening on averagee”, indicate our colleagues from Boxoffice Pro.
The first comedy directed by Artus was packed with spectators from the May 1st public holiday. For its first day, the film was even stronger than Intouchables, which had recorded 191,342 admissions and The Good God, 200,723 admissions for their respective first days.
Then, the success has not diminished since! The film had already reached one million admissions last Monday. It is now over 1.1 million admissions, and thanks to a greater combination of theaters in the 2nd week, Un P’tit truc en plus should gain many more spectators in the coming days. “The film is experiencing real enthusiasm from exhibitors, with an addition of 110 theaters from May 8 (+24%), and 2,300 (+20%) additional screenings for the second week compared to the first.“, according to Boxoffice Pro.
The May 8 and 9 public holidays, and more generally this weekend for many French people was probably a boost for entries.
Excellent word of mouth
Un P’tit truc en plus is a sunny and touching comedy with actors with disabilities. Almost 30 years after Le Huitième jour, the film with Daniel Auteuil and Pascal Duquenne, which greatly moved and touched the public at the time, Un p’tit truc en plus continues this path, that of finding a balance between humor, emotion and above all a great kindness, which can awaken consciences.
His word of mouth is excellent. As its distributor told us, “no spectator remains indifferent to it, they have a happy time with this team and they share it in packed rooms in a communion specific to cinema!“
How far will the success of Artus’ film go?
“Whether for the choral side of Our Happy Days (2006) and its 1.6 million spectators, Hors Normes (2019) which also featured actors with disabilities and its 2.1 million admissions or, of course, the unsurpassable Intouchables (2011) and its 19.5 million admissions, Un p’tit truc en plus follows in the footsteps of many successful films, which can fuel great ambitions“, indicate our colleagues at Boxoffice Pro.
“It is impossible today to know where the film will go. We should end the week around 1.1 million with less than 500 screens, like The First Name which ended at 3.4 million and like Le diner de cons which reached 9.2 million.
