“A little nightmare”: Yanis Marshall, the Star Ac dance teacher, confides in his years of trouble

During an interview for Le Parisien, Yanis Marshall returned to his years of struggle. Indeed, life has not always been rosy for the Star Academy dance teacher.

He is the dance teacher of the new edition of the star Academy. Yanis Marshall has agreed to return to his career as a dancer for our colleagues from Parisian. RHoped by Kamel Ouali, he obtained his first job as a dancer at only fifteen years old. : “He had taken care of the Under the Sun series and was looking for young people from the region who knew how to dance, he recalls. And when he launched Le Roi Soleil, he asked me to be part of it”. But all was not rosy for the dancer. Indeed, the current teacher of the star Academyhas also experienced major difficulties: “I was making fake CVs: one day a salesman at Zara, another waiter in a pizzeria or in a bar… It was a little nightmare. But I had such a patter and a pretty face, so I was taken everywhere, even if I stayed only one day as I was so bad”.

Then one day, he decides to go with his former companion to New York. There he will cross “Sheryl Murakami and Brian Friedman, choreographer of BeyoncĂ© for the first, of Britney Spears for the second”. “And there, it was a revelation. I found what I was missing, this very sexual and sensual side that I couldn’t express through dance in France. I didn’t even think I had the right.” Indeed, his dance on heels does not seduce in France : “I said to myself: We can!…. Except that it was in New York, he jokes. In France, I added the heels and I was insulted by all names.”

The beginning of success

It was in 2010 that he filmed one of his rehearsals. The video is on Youtube and the success is there. “The production of Britain’s Got Talent, the British equivalent of La France has an incredible talent, notices him. In 2014, he joined the eighth season of the program as a trio with his comrades Arnaud Boursain and Mehdi Mamine”. During his participation, he also remembers having been “flange”. But in the final, the reward is there: “We were asked not to do too much, we accepted, he laughs. And, live, we did the opposite, in kilts and spanking each other!”.

The private life of Yanis Marshall

Now a dance teacher Star Academy, Yanis Marshall has decided to make all the candidates dance: “I am quite demanding”, he confided Friday evening on the set of Daily. “Besides, I lost my voice because I shouted at my professional dancers while preparing the prime. Afterwards, I don’t take it too seriously so I’m sure I’m going to say a lot of bullshit. But you’ll have to be serious and keep pace.” On the private side, Yanis Marshall had come out in 2016 : “I’am gay, very gay”he had published on his Facebook page before specifying: “I’m gay. I’ve always been gay. I’m also very proud to be gay and… Thank you very much! But homophobia is real. I see it everyday in my comments feed here on Instagram , on Facebook or on my Youtube page […] Personally, I don’t care. Totally. But not everyone is as strong as me. I will die wearing my heels! But what happened in Orlando makes me so sad with its sheer cruelty, ignorance and hatred. Please don’t let this stop you from being who you are.”
