For months we have missed doing something after work, meeting friends and spending an evening full of lightness. How about if it were also available for home?

In search of variety and new activities in lockdown, I became aware of online wine tastings and immediately knew: I'll be there!

The preparation:

First of all, I drove to the wine shop I trusted and wanted to pick up a package full of wines for the announced tasting. Arrived it turns out: lucky! There are not many boxes left, because apparently not only I have the urge for a change from the currently rather dreary everyday life. The tasting is open to everyone who is in the mood for a nice, sociable evening and therefore I am not surprised when I am told that several hundred boxes have been sold. Incidentally, the box contains a crémant, three white wines and two red wines. Heading home with my new alcoholic friends in the passenger seat. Still in the car, I ask myself whether it might be worth stopping at the nearest supermarket again. It is well known that drinking on an empty stomach is not the best idea! All right, olives, bread and a few antipasti quickly find their way into the shopping cart, as well as some chocolate at the checkout. Well, the basis is in place!

The tasting:

The big moment has finally arrived and the wine tasting begins! We, in this case two friends and I, dial into the live stream on time and get a first glimpse of the moderators' location. We cannot see the other participants, there is only the possibility of communicating via a chat. The first glass is poured and we get to know our new, bubbly friend. From glass to glass, not only does the mood rise, but also our self-confidence, now a wine connoisseur ourselves: to be in (the next morning, it looks different again). During one of the planned toilet breaks, I take care not only to decide on the next wine purchase based on the label, but also to pay attention to the content. In total we try six different wines that evening, one of which tastes better than the other.

Tip: Drink plenty of water in between! Otherwise you probably won't make it to the end of the tasting.

Conclusion:

I usually love evenings with friends and a glass or two of wine in bars, on the Elbe or on the balcony. Mainly among people and together! The tasting gave us the feeling for the first time in a long time that we were experiencing something different and escaping from everyday life. For the six bottles of wine, a nut mix and a lot of entertainment and knowledge, we paid a total of 89 euros and found that absolutely fair! For someone who enjoys drinking wine and being around people, this is an absolute recommendation. Overall, these few hours are like a short break in a wine glass!
