Google TV wants to save you time by anticipating the apps you’ll be using, downloading them, and connecting to them automatically.

It should soon become much easier to set up a new device on Google TV. Thanks to a system update, the term ” plug and play should move to a higher stage.

No app to download or credentials to enter to connect

The information, shared by the publication 9to5Google, was discovered by analyzing the code of the latest version (1.0.4508) of the Google TV setup application. A particularly interesting element indicates that the Mountain View company is developing a feature that will make the experience smoother when acquiring a Smart TV, a box or a dongle under Google TV.

Currently, setting up a new Google TV device takes time, because in addition to connecting to your Google account, you also have to download and enter the credentials of the third-party applications that you use: Netflix, Prime Video, Twitch, Disney+…

This could well become a thing of the past, since Google TV will be able, if the firm goes to the end of its ideas, to automatically download the applications that interest its users, and even better, to connect them to it without having to enter their identifiers or scan a QR code to validate their account from their mobile.

Google Assistant comes into play

A huge time saver, but how will it work? In the settings of Google Assistant, it is possible to link your Google account to video or audio streaming services. This allows you to take advantage of features relating to casting or multimedia playback on compatible devices.

Google TV uses this same information to recommend what the user can watch. To do this, it first highlights the content available on platforms for which the user already has a subscription.

This data will therefore be used by Google TV so that the system knows which apps you usually use and to add them without your intervention to the experience, and even connect to them. Login credentials will not be taken directly from Google Assistant, but will come from another of your devices where you are logged into your Google account.
