a major redesign of the connected watch is planned for its 10th anniversary

As with the iPhone X, Apple is already working on a special version of its Apple Watch, which would celebrate 10 years of its connected watches. On the program, a new design, but also other novelties

Apple’s first smartwatch was released in the spring of 2015, but was originally unveiled at the end of 2014. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch next year, the company is reportedly planning a major redesign for its Apple Watch , with many new features on the program. So far, Apple had contented itself with timid updates for its connected watches, which have had a new version every year since their launch.

The Apple Watch Series 6, for example, had the right to a faster processor and an SpO2 sensor, the Apple Watch Series 7 to a larger screen and the Apple Watch Series 8 to a body temperature sensor. This year, the main change expected for the 9 series is a faster processor and new colors, but Apple is reportedly preparing a bigger update for next year’s model.

The Apple Watch X could offer new features and a new design

According to the famous journalist Mark Gurman, who is generally always well informed, the Apple Watch X would be entitled to a whole series of improvements. Ever since the original Apple Watch, the bands slide over the sides of the chassis and attach using a locking mechanism, but this design didn’t allow Apple to improve the size of the batteries.

We would therefore be entitled to a new system of magnetic fasteners which will take up less space. Apple’s designers are said to be working on reduce the thickness of the connected watchand therefore its weight.

At the level of the screen, Apple would seek to replace the OLED panel with a MicroLED panel, but this technology is still very recent and very expensive. It therefore remains to be seen whether or not the American company could use it on its connected watch. As a reminder, this is the same screen technology that will be used in the Apple Vision Pro, its first mixed reality headset.

Finally, Apple would also have planned a blood pressure sensor for the Apple Watch for years, and this sensor might arrive just in time for the wearable watch’s 10th anniversary. This new Apple Watch X would arrive as early as 2024, but we’ll know more by then.
