Sania Khan, 29, was allegedly killed by her ex-husband who later committed suicide, reports ABC News. The young woman, photographer, had recently settled in the city. The 36-year-old man, Raheel Ahmed, is said to have come from his home in the state of Georgia to attack the victim. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found Sania shot in the head. She was already dead while the suspect was pronounced dead in hospital.

Without confirming their names at first, the authorities indicated that the thirties had been the victim of a homicide and that the man at her side had committed suicide. Their intervention took place after the police in Alpharetta, Georgia, where Raheel Ahmed lived, contacted the Chicago police to come to Sania Khan’s home to check on her. A few hours earlier, relatives of Raheel Ahmed had indeed reported his disappearance and feared that something had happened to his ex-girlfriend.

The suspect would not have supported that the latter addresses their divorce on the application TikTok. In the video, she had explained that her marriage had only lasted a year and had implored the women she spoke to not to ignore “alerts” concerning their companions. The publication had gone viral and she had confided, in another post, to having been criticized by her own family for having spoken about it. Of Pakistani and American descent, she said: “Going through a divorce as a South Asian woman sometimes feels like a failure in life. The way the community labels you, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because of what people may think isolates you. It makes it harder for women to leave marriages they shouldn’t have been in to begin with.” In her publications, she also said that the year she filed for divorce was the year she “nearly died”.
