Poetic, melodious and bewitching, Une sirène à Paris once again reveals the talents of director Mathias Malzieu.
Already in 2014, we fell in love with the talents of filmmaker Mathias Malzieu. The writer and singer proposed an adaptation of his own novel Mechanics of the heart. In collaboration with Stéphane Berla, he offered a poetic animated film. The cinematographic leg of Mathias Malzieu was given for the very first time. This Monday, June 22, he is back with the adaptation of another of his novels. But this time, Mathias Malzieu is alone behind the camera. And we give you the tone right away: A mermaid in Paris already promises to be the unmissable film of this month of March.
It must be said that there are all the ingredients to succumb again to the talent of the director. In this new film, the actor Nicolas Duvauchelle is Gaspard, a broken-hearted crooner. He vowed never to fall in love again. One evening, he will meet Lula, a mermaid stranded on the banks of the Seine and interpreted by Marilyn Lima. Gaspard’s existence will never be the same, nor will Lula’s, who has never known love.
Therein lies the beauty of this feature film. On the one hand, Gaspard is exhausted from having loved too much. On the other hand, Lula never knew this since the hearts of men explode when she sings. A mermaid in Paris paints the portraits of two beings whom everything opposes. However, it is a real passion that will be born between them. The innocence and authenticity that emanate from A mermaid in Paris are so rare today in the cinema that we appreciate them every moment. All this without counting the soundtrack of the film, specific to the singular and delicate style of Mathias Malzieu.
Incredibly carried by the duo formed by Nicolas Duvauchelle and Marilyn Lima, this new film by Mathias Malzieu also gives an important place to the secondary characters. Rossy de Palma, Romane Bohringer and Alexis Michalik are unforgettable. Discover A mermaid in Paris at the cinema next June 22.
