A Metroid tactics game could have been released on Wii

Senior Engineer on the adventure-centric FPS series that is Metroid Prime, Paul Tozour recently unveiled an amazing story on the popular Youtube channel Did You Know Gaming. According to him, one of the main thinkers of the license had pitched a concept to the leaders of Retro Studios, in the middle of the first decade of 2000. This game, again using the license Metroid, was to take the form of a tactical in the X-Com style. Starring the eternal Samus Aran, the project also included soldiers from the Galactic Federation, as well as mercenaries and bounty hunters, all gathered against the Space Pirates. Of course, all these units could have been customized, evolving with new weapons, armor, skills, etc. On the scenario side, the game took place well before all the episodes of the series, thus narrating the beginnings of Samus.

If it necessarily makes people curious on paper, this Metroid tactics has therefore never seen the light of day, not even in the form of a prototype. Indeed, the pitch was not retained by Retro Studios and therefore did not make the trip to Nintendo’s ears.
