Jenny Smith, 37, and her son Joseph, 17, were found dead on February 22 in their apartment in Liverpool. Jenny was found under a duvet in the master bedroom while her son was found in the living room. Toxicology tests show mother-son duo died of Fentanyl overdose, a synthetic opioid 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Despite this, a recent investigation has ensured that there is a missing piece to the puzzle.
Anita Bhardwaj, who is part of the English police, confided in theEcho about this case: “We don’t know what happened”he first said, before continuing: “It seems like a piece of the puzzle is missing, which we’ll never know, and the only people who knew about it were Jenny and Joseph. There are so many unanswered questions”he said.
Circumstances far too abstract
Jenny was a former victim support worker. She had last been seen by a neighbor around 10 a.m. on February 18 in the common area of the building where she lived with her son. Two days later, Jenny’s father, Malcolm Smith, who lives in America, called Merseyside Police and asked them to go and see if everything was ok, as he had not heard from them for several days. The police came to Jenny’s house on February 20 and 21, but no one opened the door. Phone calls to Jenny’s and Joseph’s cell phones also went unanswered. February 22officers returned to find that messages sent to Jenny the day before had not been read. They broke into the apartment and found the dead bodies of Jenny and Joseph.
Jenny’s father did not understand the circumstances of the death of his daughter and his grandson: “It was really a shock to me that they touched something like Fentanyl becausethey were totally against drug use“, said Malcolm before resuming: “Jenny in particular was the type of person who did not take anything that was not prescribed to her. She was rather carefree. She loved life, she didn’t go out as much as she could because she suffered from gout. She was socializing however, she was not totally lonely. Joseph was exactly the same, very carefree, very studious. He took care of his grandmother when she was not well. They were both good, ordinary people. It was a total shock to me to learn that they were taking Fentanyl“he concluded.
In short, nobody, not even the investigators who assured that the two deceased had never touched drugs in their lives, does not understand why the mother and her son died of this overdose. A mystery that they believe will never be solved.
