Declared stillborn a few hours earlier, an Argentinian baby woke up in the morgue under the astonished eyes of his mother.
In Argentina, we talk about miracles. In the Province of Chaco, a baby declared stillborn was found alive in the morgue by his mother who came to say goodbye. On April 3, 29-year-old Analia Bouter was admitted to Perrando de Resistencia Hospital for a premature delivery by caesarean section. Around 10 a.m., the young mother gave birth to her daughter, Luz Milagros Verón, but the happiness was short-lived. Just minutes after birth, the baby weighing just 840 grams was declared stillborn…
Without waiting, little Luz was taken to the morgue. But before leaving the hospital, her mother, upset, asked to see her. It was then that Analia experienced the most incredible moment of her life. As she tenderly caressed her daughter’s arm, placed in a small coffin stored at zero degrees, the young mother heard her cry out. “She was covered in a thin layer that looked like dewsays the young woman to the Argentine daily, Clarín, referring to the medical gauze that covered the body of her daughter. Suddenly I heard a moan.”
Very much alive after twelve hours spent in a refrigerated place, the little miracle was immediately brought back to the hospital. She is now in stable condition. “It’s more than a miracleconfides his father, Fabián Verón, to Clarín. In my family, we are believers, and our faith in God is now even greater..”
An open investigation
Although on a small cloud, the parents of the miraculous ask for explanations. “We were told that the baby was hypothermic and that this may have had an effect on his heart rate. But it is clear that the rules to follow have not been respected“, says Fabián Verón indignantly. At the Perrando de Resistencia Hospital, an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the incident and the degree of responsibility of the caregivers. “Every staff member involved in what happened has responsibilities and will be held to account“, said Rafael Sabatinelli, Undersecretary of Health.
