A perfectly regular series of holes traced on the ocean floor has been discovered and photographed north of the Azores by a team of American scientists.
It is a mystery as deep as the Atlantic. While exploring an underwater volcano north of the Azores using a remote-controlled camera, scientists from NOAA, the United States Public Oceanic and Atmospheric Observation Agency, made a discovery that left speechless: a series of holes arranged at regular intervals drawing a straight line in the sand by more than 2700 meters deep, relates phys.org. How could such a regular pattern form at such depth?

For the moment, the researchers are unable to provide a satisfactory explanation: “Their origin remains an enigma”, recognizes the NOAA. “They almost look like they were made by a human hand, the little piles of sediment around the holes make them look like they were dug by… something.”
In a very participatory approach, NOAA published the photos on its site and invited Internet users to submit their hypotheses and suggestions. This did not fail to trigger a wave of questions and comments, sometimes whimsical but often relevant: “Have other scientists taken samples in this area? »; “Are animals hidden at the bottom of these holes?”, “Were they caused by small underwater geysers?”, “Have you considered the possibility of methane gas?”, “Isn’t that not simply an effect of the current? ”… Many avenues of research are open which have not yet led to a conclusive conclusion. But the solution is probably at hand.
