a new box sets everything on fire and that divides a lot

Netflix’s new big blockbuster is a huge hit, but that doesn’t stop it from not being unanimously acclaimed. It clearly divides.

The SVOD giant Netflix releases new products every month and many of them are a hit as soon as they are released. This is the case again this week with a very big film carried by a star literally born on the platform. A big success which nevertheless, behind the scenes, divides very clearly.

A new blockbuster is a hit on Netflix…

She is known for her key role in Stranger Things, but actress Millie Bobby Brown has more than one string to her bow. The young woman has had a string of successful films, notably on Netflix with the series Enola Holmesbut also big blockbusters since she stars in two titanic films from the MonsterVerse: Godzilla King of the Monsters And Godzilla vs. King Kong. Moreover today, she once again faces a reptilian monster in her latest box. The Lady and the Dragon. She plays a princess who planned to marry a handsome prince charming before ultimately serving as a meat bag for a murderous dragon.

The film aims to be an atypical survival film, which it succeeds at first glance before moving into a rather basic heroic fantasy. If Millie is rather convincing and the special effects are solid, the whole thing is not transcendent either, but in any case remains particularly entertaining.
An honest film with a big budget which, confirming the trend of blockbusters, ensures that it ensures spectacle. The Lady and the Dragon is a real hit on Netflix, it proudly sits at the top of the Top 10 in France and is also taking off in other countries. However, the film divides.

Barely arrived, it is already Top 1 on Netflix

…but it divides enormously

On Rotten Tomatoes, we note a real split between the critics who give the film a barely correct 59% while the spectators congratulate it and give it an average of 75% at the time these lines are written.
Critics point to environments that take themselves too seriously and fail to get us off the ground or a disjointed plot that involves us too little. Some returns also cut certain CGI effects or even a plot that is almost too childish. Many, on the other hand, praise the game of Millie, who saves the furniture here by herself.

This is also what we find among the spectators who are however much more lenient with the film. Many seem to have appreciated the suspense, the setting and the dragon itself, although some point out heavy awkwardness in the setting. Everyone, or almost everyone, agrees in any case that this is very pleasant entertainment and a good blockbuster almost behind closed doors.

Two rooms, two atmospheres therefore, but we are a long way from disasters like Rebel Moon which was literally destroyed although the director seems convinced of the contrary.

And you, have you seen The Lady and the Dragon? What did you think of it?
