A new Doctor Who series is commissioned… with big surprises planned!

The new Doctor Who spin-off series, titled “Tales of the TARDIS”, will bring together the Doctors and Companions of yesteryear to revisit the adventures of the original series.

This is good news for all Doctor Who fans! Our colleagues from Screenrant we learn that a new Doctor Who spin-off series, titled Tales of the TARDIS, has been commissioned. Former cast members of the Doctor and his companions reprise their roles to evoke key stories from the classic era of the series.

The classic era of Doctor Who began on November 23, 1963 with “An Unearthly Child”, the first episode of the first season of the first Doctor Who series – and ended in 1989 with “Survival”, the final episode of the 26th season of the first series of Doctor Who.

This classic era saw seven actors take on the role of the Doctor, facing off against foes such as the Daleks and Cybermen, who continue to be mainstays of the series revived in 2005 by Russell T. Davies.

The announcement of Tales of the TARDIES is not to be confused with the three special episodes planned for the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, which will mark the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, but also the arrival of a certain Neil Patrick Harris.

As revealed by official site from Doctor Who, Tales of the TARDIS will see former Companions and Doctors reunite and reflect on their past adventures in six episodes made up of archive footage and newly filmed scenes.

Former Doctors Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, Companions Maureen O’Brien, Peter Purves, Fraser Hines, Wendy Padbury, Katy Manning, Janet Fielding, Nicola Bryant and Sophie Aldred have confirmed their return, while Daniel Anthony will resume his role of Clyde Langer, key character in the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Russell T Davies welcomed this new iteration on X (formerly Twitter):

The word Whoniverse was coined by fans, so it’s time to give it official status. And TALES OF THE TARDIS is one of the greatest pleasures of my career – Russell T Davies ❤️❤️”

Tales of the TARDIS will be the perfect introduction for all fans of the second generation Doctor Who which returned to screens in 2005.
