A new electric Renault Mégane for 17,000 euros? It’s soon possible, but not for everyone

We know: the new ecological bonus will come into force on January 1, 2024. If we do not yet know all the details of the latter, the Île-de-France Region is taking the lead and announcing an increase in its subsidies for the purchase of an electric car. Enough to lower the bill by up to 9,000 euros…but under conditions. We’ll explain it to you.

December 15, 2023 should be noted on your calendar: it is on this date that the government will reveal all the details of the 2024 ecological bonus. If the penalty scale is already known, many mysteries hang over the beneficiaries and the amounts of the bonus. this grant.

Let’s remember what we already know: this vintage 2024 bonus will include a minimum environmental score to be achieved in order to benefit from it, and which should therefore eliminate electric cars produced in China. The Dacia Spring, the MG4, but also the Tesla Model 3 and the Volvo EX30, all currently eligible, should therefore be removed from the list. It remains to be seen how much the latter will cost: 5,000 to 7,000 euros like today? More ? Less ? Mystery.

Which does not prevent certain communities from taking the lead. The Île-de-France Region, for example, has just announced on its site additional assistance for the purchase of an electric car for 2024, and it turns out to be very generous.

Up to 9,000 euros…but with a certain number of conditions

Because yes, the maximum amount will increase next year, from 6,000 euros to 9,000 euros. A nice increase, but which obviously comes with conditions. This aid is in fact conditional on the reference tax income divided by the number of shares in the tax household, the details of which are as follows:

  • 2,250 euros for an annual income greater than 30,508 euros;
  • 4,500 euros for an annual income between 14,090 and 30,508 euros;
  • 7,500 euros for an annual income between 6,359 and 14,089 euros;
  • 9,000 euros for an annual income less than or equal to 6,358 euros.

Still on the buyer’s profile, the latter must live in the outer suburbs (Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne and Val-d’Oise), excluding Argenteuil, Athis-Mons, Juvisy-sur-Orge, Morangis, Paray -Vieille-Poste, Savigny-sur-Orge and Viry-Châtillon which already offer incentives.

The DS 3 E-Tense will become (a little) less overpriced

Not all cars will be eligible, since it must cost less than 47,000 euros, options and discounts included…and be assembled “in a European Union country where the kWh is produced with less than 110 grams of CO2”. The list is therefore reduced to nothing, being generally limited to France.

The current contenders are therefore: the DS 3 E-Tense, the Opel Mokka electric and the Renault Zoe, Mégane E-Tech and Kangoo E-Tech. The highly anticipated Renault 5 electric, which will arrive during next year, should logically also benefit from this windfall thanks to its assembly in Douai.

Professionals and retrofit are not forgotten

Companies and municipalities can also benefit from this subsidy, up to 1,500 euros for an electric two-wheeler or quadricycle (Citroën Ami type), 6,000 euros for an electric car or van weighing less than 3.5 tonnes. and 9,000 euros for a battery truck. Hydrogen is not forgotten, with aid of 15,000 euros for a vehicle weighing less than 3.5 tonnes and up to 30,000 euros beyond that.

Families are not forgotten by the system thanks to the Kangoo E-Tech

Île-de-France has even thought about retrofitting, which consists of replacing the thermal engine of an existing car with an electric motor and batteries. You will need to pay a contribution of 500 euros for a two-wheeler and 3,000 euros for a car or truck.

Cumulative assistance

Where it becomes interesting is that this aid can be combined with the ecological bonus. For example, if the aid were available today, we could imagine adding the 7,000 euros of the ecological bonus with the 9,000 euros of aid from the region for the most modest households to arrive at 16,000 euros of reduction, enough to benefit, for example, from an excellent Renault Mégane E-Tech at 17,000 euros in the best case.

The Opel Mokka electric is eligible, since it is produced in Yvelines

You still have to be able to afford it: only cash purchases are eligible for the bonus and not rentals, unlike social leasing at 100 euros per month which should arrive next year.
