Does a larger Apple Watch sound good to you? According to persistent rumors, the Californian firm could offer this year an even more massive connected watch model than the previous ones.
If you love the Apple Watch, but have always found its various variants a little too understated for your tastes, Apple might just have some good news for you. According to recent rumors, a new version of the accessory would be offered with an even larger screen than those of current models.
Bigger, brighter screen
Having become a discreet success, the connected watch from Apple has not been greatly renewed in recent years. The Series 7 presented last year slightly trimmed the borders around the screen, but remained firmly in line with the watches that preceded it with an unchanged interface and autonomy. The Series 8 could mark a slight break with the arrival of a larger model equipped with a 2-inch screen. It is in any case what analyst and screen specialist Ross Young says on Twitter.
That means, a priori, that the Series 8 will be available in 3 different versions with the 41 and 45 mm that we now know, plus this new, even more massive model. However, we do not yet know if the largest model will be a classic Apple Watch, or an ultra high-end model that would complement Apple’s offer. For the past few weeks, noises from the corridors have indeed evoked an Apple Watch dedicated to adventurers and extreme sports. The latter could change its design and switch to a more square dial than the previous models. Change that would potentially allow the screen to gain a few millimeters.
Currently, the 41 and 45mm models have 1.69-inch and 1.90-inch screens respectively. The switch to an almost 2-inch display doesn’t sound like a lot, but it still represents a 5% increase over the largest model available today. Information obtained by another specialist in the production chain, Jeff Pu, corroborates these rumors and affirms that the company Luxshare (which already produces Airpods for Apple) would be the number 1 supplier for this new generation Apple Watch. It could be that this ultra high-end model also has a screen that is even brighter than that of current watches.
But few other changes
Other menu changes are under consideration for the new Apple Watch range. The Series 8’s ability to take temperature readings is becoming clearer after being widely rumored. Taking skin temperature readings is a challenge, but it looks like Apple is confident in its algorithms. In the absence of an accurate measurement of body temperature, the new temperature sensor could very well be used to detect abnormal variations, potentially linked to a feverish episode, although this is only a hypothesis for the moment. .
Finally, the new Apple Watch would ship the same S6 chip found in the last two generations of connected watches. An economical and logistical choice given the current shortage of components.
If the reuse of the same chip for the third consecutive year does not give hope for revolutions in use, we can at least hope that the most massive model will offer more convincing autonomy than that of the Series 7.
