A free Spider-Man short film

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is not canceled, but we should no longer expect it in 2024. The Sony Pictures animated film has been postponed indefinitely. But it was apparently the best thing to do for the good of the teams and the film. The pressure experienced by the artists to finalize the second opus, Across the Spider-Verse, would have left its mark according to several testimonies. We will have time to talk about the third part again, but for now, it’s time to discover the free Spider-Man short film, The Spider-Within: A Spider-Verse Story.

“In The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, Miles Morales struggles to balance his responsibilities as a teenager, a friend, a student, all while being Brooklyn’s friendly Spider-Man. After a particularly complicated day, Miles suffers a panic attack which forces him to confront these manifestations of his anxiety. But also to learn that asking for help can be just as courageous an act as protecting your city from evil” official synopsis (via Sony Pictures Entertainment).

This new story, directed by Jarelle Dampier and written by Khailia Amazan, is a bit special. As we can read in the synopsis, the story focuses on Spider-Man’s mental health. A work with a delicate but important subject and which is integrated into a course on mental health from the Kevin Love Funds foundation. Through it, students will be able to tell their story, raising awareness of mental health, while highlighting creativity. And this Spider-Man movie was also created for this purpose. In order to allow other, still underrepresented, voices to be expressed, Sony Pictures launched the LENS program. This short film is available for free, but if you wish, there is an insert to make a donation to Kevin Love’s association.
