The Xbox Series 2 is already making headlines again, with a new rumor gaining more and more momentum. What exactly can we learn about this?
According to a new rumor, the next Xbox console could launch as early as 2026. It’s important to note that none of this information regarding the next generation of Xbox consoles has been officially confirmed by Microsoft. While awaiting official announcements, these rumors should be taken with caution. But here’s what we can learn for the moment about this famous Xbox Series 2.
Xbox Series 2 in the air
The Ghost of Hope, who has sources within Activision, wrote: “According to reliable sources, the next Xbox is planned for the end of 2026. It is very likely that COD2026 will be available on day one.” The Call of Duty 2026 game is currently in development at Infinity Ward. Microsoft has repeatedly confirmed that a new generation of Xbox consoles is in the works. In February, Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, spoke about future hardware ( Xbox Series 2) during an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, stating: “We are also investing in the next generation roadmap. Our goal is to deliver the biggest technological leap ever seen in a generation of hardware, which will benefit gamers and creators.”
In April, Sarah Bond reiterated in an internal email that the company was moving full steam ahead on development of the next system. However, during the investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, documents dating from 2022 revealed that the next consoles from Microsoft and Sony were not expected before 2028. This information could, however, be revised in light of the recent Xbox hardware sales performance, which fell 31% from the previous year. The Xbox Series 2 for 2026 could thus be possible.
While waiting for the new generation, a new white version of the Xbox Series X should be launched soon. Fans of the brand will therefore have to wait a little longer before discovering what Microsoft has in store for the future of video games. But we can obviously already imagine a big power gap with ever-increasing support for technologies like Ray Tracing and super sampling, close to what Nvidia already offers with its DLSS.
