LEGO excels in the art of capitalizing on popular licenses to attract more customers, especially among fans. Aware of its influence, the brand has just unveiled a spectacular new set.
LEGO now offers sets based on the biggest pop culture licenses. Among these, we find Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Mario, Dune, and of course… The Lord of the Rings. It is the latter that interests us today with an exceptional set. Representing one of the most iconic locations in Tolkien’s literary saga. Something to delight the fans.
A huge LEGO set
After the LEGO Lord of the Rings set and the reproduction of Rivendell last year, another set inspired by Middle-earth is expected for 2024. This time, however, we leave the vast green expanses of the elven lands to focus to a much darker place.
Indeed, LEGO plans to launch an impressive Barad-Dur set in the summer of 2024. This product will be integrated not into the classic Lord of the Rings collection, but rather into the LEGO Icons range.
This monumental tower, adorned with the Eye of Sauron, will consist of 5,471 pieces, explaining its high price of $459.99. Although details of the model’s interior are yet to be revealed, we do have some information about its exterior appearance. The tower will be erected on a base using translucent orange bricks to imitate lava.
In some places in the LEGO Tower, rocks from the mountain it is located on in the film are embedded into its sides. Behind Barad-Dur, a watchtower would also be present. As for the figurines, Frodo, Sam, Sauron, at least one Orc and probably other as yet unknown characters are expected.
The den of evil
Barad-Dur, in the universe of JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, is the main fortress of Sauron, the central antagonist. Located in the region of Mordor, it stands as a symbol of Sauron’s power and terror. This immense black tower, built with the magic and strength of Sauron, is almost indestructible. It dominates the landscape of Mordor with the Eye of Sauron at its summit, constantly scanning Middle-earth. Barad-Dur plays a key role in the story, serving as a center of operations for Sauron and his armies. This can be compared to the Death Star of the Empire in Star Wars, to give an analogy.
The exact size of Barad-Dur is not precisely specified in the original texts. However, it is described as an imposing and gigantic structure, dominating the landscape of Mordor. In Peter Jackson’s film adaptations, Barad-Dur is represented as an extremely tall and massive tower, which one can easily imagine being several hundred meters tall. Obviously made of LEGO, it must be imposing.
