New era for the ARD program “hard but fair”: The focus is now increasingly on dialogue with citizens.

Since Frank Plasberg (66) said goodbye in 2022 ARD political talk “tough but fair” in criticism. The new presenter Louis Klamroth (34) has also been scolded at times in recent months. Now there is an official restart, as the broadcaster announced on Wednesday. The new concept will be implemented after the winter break next Monday, January 29, 2024. The broadcast, which is responsible for WDR, then brings the dialogue with citizens even more into focus.

There should also be changes in the selection of guests and topics, the dramaturgy and the general look of the show. In addition, the design of the studio is new. The focus is now on a “town hall character” and, in addition to politics, the citizen guests are also given greater importance. In addition, a program commented by Klamroth and supplemented by editorial content will be published in the media library on the day following the program.

Louis Klamroth: “We’ll try out a lot”

In a comment on the reboot, Klamroth says that his show will not only have a new look, but will also set new accents in terms of content and become more digital: “We’ll try out a lot of things, I’m looking forward to that!” The responsible WDR program director Jörg Schönenborn (59) also spoke up and spoke of a further development of a successful concept that specifically aimed to appeal to a younger audience: “Politics is confronted here in the best sense with the concerns and questions from the middle of society .” At the same time, we want to make the work of the editorial team more transparent.

“hart aber fair” celebrated its premiere on January 31, 2001 and has been running on Mondays at 9 p.m. on Erste for many years. After more than 20 years, Frank Plasberg gave up his role as the face of the show and passed the baton to Klamroth, who presented his first show on January 9, 2023.
