a new tax exemption for firefighters

A decree published Thursday in the Official Journal confirms that firefighters will now be exempt from tax on fuel for fire and rescue service (Sdis) vehicles.

The decree details the terms of this exemption, mentioning that reimbursement of this tax on diesel and gasoline can be requested no earlier than January 1 of the year following the year of acquisition of the products, no later than December 31. of the second year following the purchase in question.

This reimbursement is applicable to fuel consumption occurring from July 12, 2023, specifies the decree.

Commitment kept! The decree published today specifies the terms of excise exemption on fuel for fire and rescue services. The State is more than ever committed to our firefighters, the Minister for Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, said Thursday on X.

In May 2023, deputies defeated a government attempt to remove a fuel tax exemption for Sdis vehicles, during the examination of a text on forest fires.

The suppression amendment tabled by the government was largely rejected, with 134 votes to 4, coming up against all the opposition but also almost all of the deputies from the presidential camp present in the chamber.

The exemption in question was provided for in a bill from the Senate, which contained a set of measures to strengthen the prevention of forest fires, after the gigantic fires which marked people’s minds in 2022.

In the text adopted on first reading by the Senate, it was planned that the exemption from excise duty on energy products other than natural gases and coals (ex-TICPE) would be partial. The deputies modified the measure in committee, voting for a total exemption.
