Caution is required, since the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF, it’s simpler) alerts us to the advent of a scam as unique as it is well put together.

We will therefore discover the pernicious method used by scammers to achieve their ends.

A phone call to avoid

To put it simply, a person posing as a fraud prevention agent calls the victim with the aim of notifying him of a fraud in progress on his bank account. The scammer then asks for the bank details of his interlocutor to supposedly stop the illegal transaction which obviously never took place. Even more deviously, the fake agent can also indicate that the person’s credit card data has been stolen and that purchases are made using it.

Of course, these are just lies aimed at stealing private information from the victim and then using their bank accounts. This type of fraud is unfortunately common, whether via fake websites posing as administrative services or via e-mails that reuse the visual identity of certain public services (or others).

The alert is on!

The GDCCRF expressed itself on this subject on May 7 via a press release published on Twitter (see below). The French administration takes the time to explain that its “RéponseConso” service never calls a consumer who has not requested it beforehand. Thus, a real agent will not be able to contact you on his own. It will definitely be a scam.

In addition, the service does not normally have the authorization to directly request the identifiers of a bank account. You have now been warned! So, in case of doubt, never communicate private data by phone, or even by e-mail, and rather contact the real administration to report these suspicious requests.
