AV1 vs H.265
Of course, like Sony, Panasonic, Philips and TCL, which are not members of the alliance, LG did not wait for its integration to add support for AV1 on its televisions. However, although LG TVs support AV1 encoded 8K streams from YouTube, they still do not support AV1 4K streams from Netflix. Note that the platform began broadcasting certain AV1 content at the end of 2021.
Basically, remember that the AV1 video codec was launched in 2018. As previously reported, it is the work of some market players unwilling to pay royalties for H.265. Beyond the financial aspect, it is between 20 and 40% more efficient than HEVC.
