a new update with new features

A major system update is being rolled out to all Xbox consoles and PC. Here are all the new features added by Microsoft, with differences between platforms.

After the recent PS5 update, the Xbox ecosystem is getting a makeover on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Last February, Microsoft had already made adjustments to the sorting options for games and applications, and had introduced new features . An option to better manage shared consoles and a tool to calibrate your controllers. If your device were to have a strange problem, such as inconsistent responses, do not hesitate to launch the auto-calibration tool via the Xbox Accessories application. For this month, the Redmond firm is rethinking the interface.

Xbox April update available on PC…

Microsoft is keeping a promise made a few weeks ago, namely the deployment of gaming hubs via the Xbox April 2024 update. What are “gaming hubs”? A place in the interface that compiles useful information about your current titles. At the very top, there is for example a summary of the playing time, the last time you launched a title, the number of achievements and Gs unlocked. This allows you to follow your progress in detail to summarize, and also to see which friends on your list are browsing the same software.

In addition, you can have easier access to the latest DLC and recent add-ons, to obtain information directly from the developers, or as we can see in the screenshot below, to display in one click the folder where the captures (images, videos) are saved. “With the official rollout of Game Hubs to all players on the Xbox app, we’re also bringing back a fan-favorite feature: Game Screenshots. Any gameplay clips or screenshots that you made using the Game Bar for a specific game will now be displayed in the corresponding game hub and stored locally on your PC » explains the Xbox Wire blog.

Likewise, the April 2024 system update allows the manufacturer to test a new navigation functionality. It’s located in the “What’s Happening” section of the Game Pass tab in the Xbox PC app.

…and Microsoft consoles

We only talked about the PC, but the Xbox consoles have many new features. Among them, an option to mute the sound if you use Discord Voice. If you don’t want to hear the sound of other people on the same channel or call, simply open the “Guide”, go to “Options”, then choose “Mute “.

For several months, it has been forbidden to keep your captures on a machine for more than 90 days. The solutions ? Transfer everything to an external hard drive to make sure you don’t lose anything, or use Microsoft’s cloud backup system, OneDrive. Now, with the April 2024 update, you will receive a notification to let you know that you have little storage space left. Finally, you can also prevent anyone from installing and uninstalling games or applications. Practical to avoid a mistake made by a little brother or sister! To access this new option, here is how to do it:

  • Go to “Settings”
  • Then in “System”
  • Then, direction “Access restriction”

“You can enable access restrictions using a “guest code” and disable these new controls when installing or uninstalling a game or app. Your guest will then be prompted to enter the “guest code” to complete the activity” adds Xbox Wire.
