“A nice moment”: Vicky Krieps, last companion of Gaspard Ulliel, moved in Cannes

Despite her grief, the Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps is present at the Cannes Film Festival, to present two films there! Friday, May 20 was thus broadcast Bodicepresented in the Un certain regard category and, this Saturday, May 21, she must defend More than ever, presented in the same category. This film is the last in which his late companion, actor Gaspard Ulliel, shot.

Friday, Vicky Krieps therefore had a busy first day in Cannes. At 11 a.m., the film was shown in the Salle Debussy Bodice by director Marie Kreutzer. The feature film, which is rebroadcast twice this Saturday, May 21 and one last time on Sunday, May 22, features Vicky Krieps in the guise of Empress Sissi. The young actress was therefore delighted to be able to come and present it on the Croisette. In the evening, she was machine-gunned by photographers as she made her way to the film’s climb Three Thousand Years of Longing by George Miller, presented out of competition. She posed with a thin smile on her lips, dressed very soberly in comparison to the glamor that usually reigns on the Cannes red carpet.

But it is especially this Saturday, May 21 that the day should be charged with emotion. Indeed, Vicky Krieps (38) was to present the film More than ever by Emily Atef, also in the Un certain regard category. This is the last film in which the late actor Gaspard Ulliel, who died last January after a skiing accident, shot. Interviewed by the newspaper The Parisian, the director explained that it was Vicky, her neighbor in life, who offered to film Gaspard with her. “She told me he had the depth to play this character. They were friends. Friends, longtime friends. And they had never toured together“, confided Emily Atef.

Vicky Krieps, who was Gaspard Ulliel’s last companion – a version called into question by Gaëlle Pietri, the woman with whom the actor had become a father -, also spoke about the Cannes screening of More than ever. “I hope that More than ever won’t just be expected because it’s Gaspard Ulliel’s last film. Above all, it is a very beautiful film (…) The projection can only be a nice moment, since, during this film, Gaspard will be alive on screen.. To be present at Cannes, in a last feature film which thus speaks of the love of a couple, and of how this love can survive death, is a beautiful analogy. Strong and deep. I hope we manage to convey some of this truth to the public…“, she confided to paper jamnot without emotion.
