Huawei has just lifted the veil on its new creation: the MatePad Air. Presented in China, this tablet stands out for its lightness and elegant design. Despite its featherweight of 508 grams and its thinness of 6.4 millimeters, the MatePad Air has an interesting technical sheet.
Huawei presented a new tablet in China. In addition to being elegant, it has other advantages. With a weight of only 508 grams and a thickness of 6.4 millimeters, the tablet stands out as being one of the lightest and thinnest in its category. However, don’t let the size fool you, as it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor, which is known for its exceptional performance.
Despite being two years old, the Snapdragon 888 processor remains swift. With four ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores reaching clock rates up to 2.84 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz, the MatePad Air will be able to meet most needs.
What impresses us the most is the MatePad Air’s 11.5-inch IPS screen, it offers an impressive definition of 2,800 x 1,840 pixels. The screen can also adapt its frame rate from 30 to 144 Hz, depending on the content displayed, thus ensuring a smooth viewing experience if necessary. Huawei has also equipped the MatePad Air with a 13-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel front camera and an 8,300 mAh battery that promises up to twelve hours of battery life. Charging is provided via a USB-C port with a capacity of 40 Watts.
It also incorporates four microphones and a four-speaker system, and an optional stylus and keyboard cover, the latter operating via Bluetooth and with an integrated battery.
iPad Air or MatePad Air?
And finally, how not to notice the designation “Air” in the name of the product? It seems that Huawei has decided to pay a “tribute” to Apple and its famous iPad Air. This is what one could call a nod to the competition.
Regarding prices, the MatePad Air starts at 2,899 yuan (about 390 euros) for the model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The top-end model, with 12 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage and an integrated LTE modem, costs 4,499 yuan (about 600 euros). Huawei has yet to confirm details regarding pricing and availability in France.
However, it is important to note that in case of release in France, it will not be equipped with Google services due to trade restrictions imposed on Huawei. Users will therefore have to turn to other solutions for applications and services normally provided by Google. For the moment, it embeds HarmonyOS as an explanation system for the Chinese market.
