A paid subscription to Facebook: and why not?

Meta has just announced the arrival of its subscription system, Meta Verified, in the United States. It allows those who subscribe to it to obtain the famous blue dot and offers access to more features on Facebook and Instagram.

A few weeks ago, the company mimicked Twitter by announcing the arrival of this subscription in New Zealand and Australia.

What advantages with Meta Verified?

After having obtained good results and taken into account user feedback, Meta now wants to introduce its subscription across the Atlantic, announced Mark Zuckerberg. By paying $11.99 monthly on web and $14.99 on mobile (to circumvent Apple’s 30% tax on in-app purchases), users will be able to get the blue badge once reserved for famous people on Facebook and Instagram.

In addition, the service provides additional protection against identity theft as well as direct access to customer service. Accounts subscribed to Meta Verified also enjoy increased visibility and reach in both platforms’ search, reviews and recommendations.

This new feature aims to strengthen authenticity and security across all of our services. “Said Mark Zuckerberg in February. To be able to register, you must be of legal age and confirm your identity by providing a government-issued photo ID. Two-factor authentication is also required. Subscribers therefore cannot change their profile name, photo, username, or date of birth unless they agree to complete the verification process again.

A new source of income

The launch of Meta Verified in the United States suggests that the company wants to gradually roll out its system. A potential launch in Europe is therefore possible in the coming months.

It follows Elon Musk’s introduction of a new version of Twitter Blue last November, bringing more features to users for $8 a month. With this subscription system, Meta will get a new source of revenue on top of its advertising business, as the company saw its revenue drop for the very first time in 2022.
