A Parisian hospital victim of a large-scale cyberattack

The Sud Francilien Hospital Center, located in Corbeil-Essonnes, has been the victim of a large-scale cyberattack since Sunday. The cybercriminals formulated, in English, a ransom demand of 10 million dollars.

Cybercriminals are definitely ready to do anything to make money… Since the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Sud Francilien Hospital Center (CHSF) in Corbeil-Essonnes has been the victim of a cyberattack paralyzing several services, including emergencies and the surgery center. A ransom demand of 10 million dollars, formulated in English, was demanded by the hacker(s).

This cyberattack forced the Hospital Center to transfer certain patients, in particular those requiring technical interventions, to other hospitals in Île-de-France. At the same time, an investigation for intrusion into the computer system and for attempted extortion by an organized gang was opened by the cybercrime section of the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The hospital, which also triggered the white plan, “make every effort to maintain outpatient care”. However, “this situation should have an impact on the activity of the operating room”explains the CHSF, while specifying that “this attack does not impact the operation and safety of the hospital building”.

As a reminder, this is not the first attack targeting a French hospital this year. Last April, a cyberattack against the information system of the Territory Hospital Group (GHT) Cœur Grand Est affected nine establishments. “We will therefore be able to build on what has already been done. In any case, it would be counterproductive to pay this ransom”said Medhy Zeghouf, chairman of the CHSF supervisory board.
