A petition launched to save video games with Ubisoft in the crosshairs

Ubisoft has (again) alienated players by cutting off the servers of The Crew and by revoking its access to fans who had purchased it, just 10 years after its launch. The racing gameIvory Tower is dead and unavailableas if it never existed and you never bought it.

Except that the players’ money went into the pockets ofUbisoft, the discontent is legitimate and some Internet users want to preserve their favorite video games. On the British Parliament website, a petition was launched to ask publishers to keep their games in good, playable condition. Here’s what players are asking for:

Require video game publishers to maintain the games they have sold in good working order

Require publishers to leave video games (and associated game assets/features) that they have sold to customers in a reasonable working condition when support ends, such that no further intervention is necessary to that the game works, as a legal right of the consumer.

Many video games rely on servers. When these are stopped, games may remain unplayable if no action is taken to remove this addiction. We believe this amounts to stealing from customers, leaving them with no recourse to keep their purchases. We are concerned that existing laws and agencies do not effectively address this problem. We therefore believe that government intervention is necessary to end this practice.

The petition’s creator, Lewis Evans, does not explicitly cite Ubisoftbut this comes just a few days after the affair of The Crew, it’s hard not to see a link there. 10,000 signatures are needed for the English government to respond to this petition, but Parliament will only consider a debate with 100,000 signatures. So far, the petition has been signed by 5,840 people and will be online for six months, until October 16. To be continued.

If you like racing games, you can find The Crew Motorfest from €31 on Amazon, Cdiscount And Fnac.
