PARIS (Reuters) – A man armed with a knife attacked municipal police on Saturday morning in the center of Marseille, injuring one of them, said the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, present on the spot.
The assailant, hit by a shot from one of the police officers, later succumbed to his injuries, we learned from a police source.
The injured policeman, “apart from the shock, is fine”, said the Minister of the Interior in front of journalists, alongside the mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, according to whom the reaction of the police officers, one of whom shot the assailant, had averted “perhaps the worst”.
According to the first available elements, the perpetrator of this attack is unknown to the police, had no criminal record and made no claim, continued Gérald Darmanin.
