A rape investigation leads to a much more gruesome discovery

In the United States, in the state of California, a rape investigation has solved the homicides of two women, committed in 1980 and 1996.

Two cold cases finally found their conclusion. In California, two cases of rapecommitted in 1980 and 1996, could be solved thanks to a simple DNA search in a database.

The first case took place in July 1980. Latrelle Lindsay, a 46-year-old woman from Union City, was found dead in her home. As the Solano County Sheriff’s Office explained, the victim had previously been raped and strangled.

The second victim was Winfred Douglas, also 46, whose lifeless body was discovered in bushes along a highway near Vallejo in March 1996. She had been asphyxiated and presented with head and neck injuries. As CBS News reports, these two murders had never ever been solved…until now.

In the years following these two cases, of the’DNA from the two crime scenes had been collected and recorded in the databases. This determined that the two women had been killed by the same personwithout making it possible to identify it.

An unexpected discovery

But James Ray Gary, a 76-year-old man from Fairfield, is currently accused of committing rape in 2021. As part of this investigation, his DNA was therefore taken. And a few days ago, the Solano police was able to determine that the septuagenarian was indeed guilty because his DNA matches that found on the victim. But the experts also discovered, to their astonishment, that James Ray Gary was also the killer of Latrelle Lindsay and Winifred Douglas.

The man was therefore arrested and imprisoned, without the possibility of bail. He was eventually charged for both homicides. “We hope this arrest brings some peace to the family and friends who have been seeking justice for 40 years.”responded the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
