Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema are hard at work on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirriman animated film dedicated to the King of Rohan, Helm Main-Marteau, who gave his name to the famous Chasm, the scene of the battle at the heart of the film The Two Towers.
The feature film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is described as an “accompaniment” to Peter Jackson’s trilogy.
Update from 02/16/2022 at 10:00 a.m.: According to Gizmodo
, the film should not have a world premiere before April 12, 2024. Just to wait, a first artwork has been released. Note that this one was made by the veterans of Weta Workshop, not by Sola, the animation studio that will be in charge of the film. Haradrim can be seen attacking the capital of Rohan, Edoras. Remember also that the film will not be linked to the Amazon series Rings of Power

A movie The Lord of the Rings by an animation veteran
This is an announcement that we did not expect. While the eyes of fans of the Lord of the Rings are turned towards the future series Amazon, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation just unveiled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. It will be an animated film directed by the Japanese Kenji Kamiyama, especially accustomed to futuristic works (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ultraman, Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045…), with Sola Entertainment on the animation side.
As its name suggests, the plot will follow the horsemen of Rohan, and more specifically King Helm Main-Hammer. Quickly evoked in Tolkien’s novels and glimpsed in a whirlwind in video games Middle Earth: Shadow of War, it is this character and his adventures that will give Helm’s Deep its name. The film will therefore take place many decades before the adventures of the Fellowship of the Ring and the famous battle against the Uruk-hai.

An independent work related to Jackson’s trilogy
Although the film planned for the cinema can be savored alone, the press release specifies that it was thought of as an “accompaniment” to the films of Peter Jackson (which will be 20 years old… Nothing for the shot of old, it’s free). Thus, visual and narrative elements will be shared between the two entities.
In addition, Philippa Boyens, who worked on the six films of Peter Jackson, will be consulting to support Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) to writing. See you in a few months for a release date and a trailer!
The days are finally starting to get longer. But let’s be honest: it’s still too cold to do anything with your evenings other than cocooning in front of a good movie or series. Moreover, SVoD platforms never miss an opportunity to stick to the calendar, the month of February is of course placed under the sign of love.
