A resident of Loire-Atlantique wins 6 million euros in the Loto but loses them by not going to get them

In Loire-Atlantique, the winner of a Loto draw will never see the color of the 6 million euros he won. Indeed, the lucky winner never claimed his prize and the deadline to recover the sum expired this weekend.

When some people hope all their life to win the jackpot, others simply forget to go and collect their prize. In Loire-Atlantique, a winner of Lotto did not come forward in time to claim the €6m he had wonas revealed by the specialized site Draw-win. The deadline was indeed set at midnight on the night of this Friday 15 to this Saturday 16 April. La Française des jeux had however launched a Wanted poster these last few days to find the lucky winner, who had validated his ticket “in the Nantes region”. Without success. The sum would therefore not be paid.

On February 12, a jackpot of 12 million euros had been won by two people who found the winning combination: 45, 22, 28, 40, 37 and the Chance number 10. One of these people, residing in Dordogne, claimed his prize. For the other, it is now too late.

71 million euros unclaimed in 2021

It’s not the first time a winner has forgotten to come forward, but it’s still very rare. The previous case dates back to 2011: a winner from Haute-Loire had not made himself known in time and had thus said goodbye to 8 million euros. But the 6 million euros lost this weekend appear modest when compared with the amounts unclaimed in the United Kingdom or the United States. In effect, nearly 80 million euros were not requested from our British neighbors after a EuroMillions draw in 2012. On the other side of the Atlantic, these are the equivalent of 71 million euros that was lost by a Powerball lottery winner.

The Tirage-gagnant site reminds us that in France every year, “several million euros, 71 million in 2021, are not recovered, including Loto, EuroMillions, Keno, Amigo winnings or winnings from scratch games”. Amounts which are however rather modest in the majority of the time.
