A "revolutionary" virucidal mask available from mid-February

The director of the Lille University Hospital, Frédéric Boiron, announced that the hospital center was working on a new type of virucidal mask which could well be available within two weeks.

Since Friday, January 21, a decree has banned the wearing of certain fabric masks, not sufficiently filtering in the face of variants of Covid-19, many "more contagious". The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, recommended to use only surgical masks (from the medical world, with a blue side and a white side), FFP2 (the most protective) and so-called industrial fabric masks " Category 1 ". However, a new type of mask even more efficient could soon see the light of day!

Frédéric Boiron, the director general of the CHU de Lille, announced that the hospital center was working on the development of a mask "revolutionary"in collaboration with an industrial partner. This mask would be virucidal, he would then be able to kill viruses and therefore Covid-19. "This virucidal mask, with a limited lifespan, has been tested in conjunction with our teams and seems very promising. An official presentation should be made around mid-February ", explained Frédéric Boiron to The voice of the North.

This is not the only innovation that is emerging in the Nord department. Researchers at the Decathlon Campus in Villeneuve-d'Ascq are said to be developing a mask "which would now make it possible to practice indoor sports, all sports combined. A mask in which we place a lot of hope", recently stated the Minister of Sports, Roxana Maracineanu.

During his interview, the director general of the Lille University Hospital took the opportunity to take stock of the situation within the hospital center. There are now an average of 110 Covid positive patients in the hospital, up from 80 in mid-December. In intensive care, a similar increase is noted.

WhileOlivier Véran hopes to be able to "to avoid" a new wave of the epidemic, Prime Minister Jean Castex recently announced new restrictions on Friday evening, January 29. If for the moment no reconfinement has been announced by the government, the French expect it. Many of them are said to be in favor of containment but opposed to restrictions such as the closure of schools and non-food businesses, poll finds Ifop for the Sunday newspaper.
